MALONE AUTO RACKS SeaWing Stinger Combo Kayak Carrier With Load Assist (MPG113MD)

Working with Gritr was great… quick shipping, good communication. No problems at all. I’m confident dealing with them again. Just installed a pair of Seawings, both with the load assist attachment, on my 2020 Subaru Outback. I used the factory crossbars. They just fit across the width of the roof, with about few inches past the roofline. It’s good, since that makes it easy to secure the outboard straps while standing next to the vehicle. The seawings held my plastic 13” sit-in kayak securely without any significant side or front/back movement, without the bow/stern lines attached. With those lines the boat was steady up to 70 mph and on curvy/hilly roads. Loading was easy with the Stinger attached. The kayak was held in place even with he bow on the loader and the stern on the ground. Gave me time to gain a better hold to remove away from the car. My only complaints are that the “jawz” gear securing to the crossbar is just a bent piece of metal. I’d prefer a slot that allows the wing to be removed without taking off a wingnut. And, the padding on the Stinger is not sufficient to prevent contact with the top of my rear hatch, especially with the curve on the outback rear hatch top. I’ll likely had thicker padding. A short drive showed the seawings to be relatively quiet at speed. I didn’t experience the whistling others have reported. Finally, both Seawings boxes were packed with instructions for a different product. I had to go online and get the Seawings user manual. Someone wasn’t paying attention when packing. So far I’m glad to have them.
