Every hunter knows that water is one of the most difficult environments to stay comfortable in. Between marshes and shallow ponds, there’s only one guarantee: You’ll feel miserable quickly without the right hunting gear.
Cold water creeping in through a seam, wet layers clinging to your legs, hours of damp discomfort slowly grinding down your focus. None of this is ideal, especially when you need to stay dry long enough for that right shot to happen.
At Gritr Outdoors, we carry hunting bibs and waders built for real waterfowl conditions. Our gear doesn’t just focus on the easy mornings, but the cold, wet, long ones too.
It's easy to lump them together, but they solve different problems. Grabbing the wrong one can make for a long, miserable day.
The short version: waders are built for getting in the water. Bibs are built for everything around them.
If your hunt involves stepping into water, waders aren't optional; they're the whole plan.
A good pair of waders creates a sealed system from your feet to your chest, letting you move through shallow water without a drop getting through. Our supply of waders handles cold temperatures and rough terrain without sacrificing comfort, and many include insulation for late-season hunts or breathable materials for days when you're covering more ground.
Let our gear help you open up terrain on your hunt that would generally be off limits.
Bibs aren’t built for wading; they're built for everything else.
Think wind, cold, splashes, wet surfaces, and damp conditions where you're not actually stepping into water. Bibs are a warmer and more flexible piece of gear than heavy waders, and a lot easier to move around in when you're not in the water.
Just keep in mind that bibs don't create a sealed barrier at the boot line. Step into deeper water and you'll feel it.
It really comes down to one question: are you going in the water?
Yes? Get waders. They're built for that environment, and nothing else does the job as well.
No? Bibs are probably the better call. More comfortable, more flexible, and more than enough protection for conditions where you're staying mostly dry.
A lot of serious waterfowl hunters keep both. Conditions change, locations change, and having the right tool for each situation is worth it.
Waterfowl hunting is hard on equipment. Cold temps, constant moisture, and long days in rough conditions wear things out fast.
That's why we stock bibs and waders from brands that take that seriously — Sitka, Banded, Drake, and Rivers Wes,t among them. These aren't brands cutting corners on seams or insulation. They build gear that's meant to last through seasons, not just a few trips.
The best waterfowl hunts rarely happen in perfect conditions. Cold mornings, wet blinds, and long waits are part of the deal. The right gear just means those things don't become the reason you pack up early.
At Gritr Outdoors, we carry hunting bibs and waders for men and women built to perform where it counts. Browse the full collection and get set up before your next hunt.
Waders are designed for walking through water and fully seal out moisture. Hunting bibs provide protection from wind, cold, and light moisture but are not intended for full water submersion.
Use hunting waders whenever you expect to step into water, such as marshes, flooded timber, or shallow ponds. If you're getting wet below the waist, waders are the right choice.
Most hunting bibs are water-resistant or offer limited waterproof protection against light exposure. They are not designed to keep water out when submerged or when walking through deeper water.
In dry or lightly wet conditions, bibs work well and provide comfort and protection. However, if you need to walk through water, bibs will not offer the waterproof protection that waders provide.
