Rollerblade is the Minneapolis corporation that produces modern inline skates and remains one of the leading manufacturers of skating equipment.
Summer was the hardest time of the year for Scott Olsen, an American hockey coach. He was 35 when he found a pair of old roller inline skates in the attic and decided to improve them. He installed new bearings and wheels, strengthened the steel base, and put his hockey boots on it. While testing the skates, a business idea was born. This is how the product became the brand we all now know as Rollerblade.
However, there was nowhere to grow: roller skates were associated with a niche product for athletes. Then Scott Olsen took the second historical step after the invention of inlines. He made the Rollerblades skates trendy. Rollerblade shoes became lighter and were painted bright neon colors. A powerful advertising campaign presented skating as a fashionable sport, which is accessible to everyone. This paid off: the popularity of inlines began to grow rapidly, and large corporations became interested in the company.
A few years later, the company entered the markets of all Europe and North America, quickly establishing its position as a confident leader in the production of roller skates, and winning the hearts of skaters with its flawless products.
The Rollerblade made a technical revolution in 1990. Thanks to the extensive use of fiberglass the weight of the skates was reduced by 50%! Then came the technologies of a soft boot, modified brakes, and other high-tech things.
By the early 2000s, Rollerblade was an absolute leader on the inline skate market. Skates became more comfortable due to the use of breathable and moisture-wicking materials. The whole generation of riders grew up with the Rollerblade company.
