When most folks think of upgrading from a 1x red dot sight, they jump straight to a 1-6x. 1-6 gives you a decent amount of extra range without overly complicating things. But what happens when you need more than that? Try 1-10x magnification.
A 1-6x LPVO is going to top out in usefulness at about 200-250 yards for most shooters. A 1-10x LPVO pushes that useful range up to 400+ yards. Again, depending on target size and shooter capabilities.
SIG SAUER TANGO-MSR 1-10x28 offers that extra length in range while still offering the close- quarter advantage of 1x magnification.
Why Go To 10x Magnification?
Want Long Range Precision without heavy optics? Most dedicated long-range scopes (think 4-12x or 6-18x) lose you speed at close range. They also force you to shoot through high magnification when you don’t need it. With a 1-10x, you can run your reticle at 1x for quick shots and dial into 10x when the need arises.
- Big Objective Lens. We’re rocking a 28mm objective here. A bigger glass gathers more light, which means better performance in low light conditions and higher resolution on distant targets.
- Illuminated BDC-10 Reticle. The reticle is tuned to 10x ballistic data. At full magnification, your holdover is precise for common rifle cartridges out at distance.

Key Differences From the 1-6x
- Magnification. Pretty straightforward. 1-10x gives you more magnification than 1-6x. More range without a change of optics.
- Objective Lens. The 28mm objective gathers more light than the 24mm. That means a slightly brighter image and better light transmission at your focal plane.
- Weight. Our 1-10x is going to be about 1-2 oz heavier than the 1-6x. Thanks to the extra glass and internal optics.
- Reticle. Tuned specifically for 10x ballistics. Your holdover marks at 10x will be good for estimating hold at distance for common cartridges. At 1x-3x, we recommend using the center hold for closer targets.

The SIG SAUER BDC-10 reticle
The illuminated BDC-10 reticle built into this scope is tuned to modern rifle ballistics. At 10x magnification, the markings on this reticle coincide with bullet drop at distance on common cartridges such as 5.56 NATO and 7.62×51.
- Use at Close Range (1x-3x). Keep it simple. At close range we recommend using center hold. Your field of view is large, so precision comes down to your fundamentals.
- Use at Distance (8x-10x). At your maximum magnification the reticle holdsover come into play. For a known distance, place your center holdpoint below the target. Use the angle of the reticle geometry to make educated estimates on wind and elevation needed.
- In Between. As you start to move into mid-range distances, use the reticle as a reference point. As you magnify up, the reticle subtensions magnify with you.

Q: Isn’t this too much magnification for close-range shooting?
A: Not with a 1-10x LPVO. Most of these allow you to shoot effectively at 1x magnification. It’s functionally the same as using a red dot sight. Higher magnification is only utilized when you need it.
Q: How far can I shoot with this scope?
A: A typical shooter will have effective range out to 400+. Training, target size, and personal skill all factor into how far you can shoot. Beyond 400 yards, you’re probably better suited with a traditional long-range scope (3-18x, 6-24x)
Q: Can I use this for hunting?
A: The SIG SAUER TANGO-MSR 1-10x works great for hunting. Particularly if you tend to hunt in open country with shots that fall between 25 and 300+ yards.
