Steiner

One of the world’s leading optics manufacturers, Steiner Optik, began as a small workshop in the town of Bayreuth, Bavaria. Founded in 1947 in a country with a collapsed economy by Karl Steiner, it managed to survive the hardships of post-war Germany and grew from a one-man business to a factory with 50 workers within six years. Karl Steiner was driven by one goal – to create second-to-none sturdy optic products.

The first Steiner creation was the Steinette camera, but in 1955, the company switched to the production of binoculars. Throughout the 20th century, Steiner collaborated with the armed forces of West Germany, providing 8x30 service binoculars for six years, and the US Army, supplying 7x50 binoculars within the largest order for delivery of military binoculars in history.

Steiner is known for its innovations that put a twist on the whole industry. It was the first to develop nitrogen-filled fogproof binoculars, compass-integrated binoculars, and binoculars with laser protection filters. Other achievements include rubber-armored lightweight housing named Makrolon and water-repellent Nano-Protection lenses. Steiner also developed numerous lens coatings that increase light transmission and contrast.

Today, Steiner produces binoculars, riflescopes, battle sights, laser devices, and thermal optics for military, marine, and hunting sectors.
